Green is the new Black

Okay, for those of you not near enough to see him, and are worried about Mikey, I hope these put you at ease.
This was the day after it happened. Most of the swelling had gone down and we were optimistic.

This was a few days later and as you can see the bruising spread and got darker and the poor sores/scrapes started to get dry and bleed, so they had to be covered- but at least he could open his eye enough to see better.

Here he is today- The black is now green (and if you look close is spreading all the way down to his nose). He can see a whole lot better and the scrapes are looking MUCH better. Hopefully in a few days (or at least in time for school to start in 3 weeks) no one will ever know anything had happened.

Ouchy makes Three

Mikey with his brave (and medicated) face
(this is how he spent last night and this morning)

Oh my poor baby boy! This has just not been his best month. If bad things happen in threes, then he has met his quota and ended it in a doozy. His first "owey" was when we went fishing with Grandma & Papa Fuhriman and he was trying to get to a different part of the river when he slipped and a sharp stick cut the back of his leg bad enough for two stitches. The worst part to him was that it was just under his buttock so people had to see his butt. He thought the world was coming to an end. THEN, a few days after getting the stiches out, he and a neighbor boy were climbing the basketball hoop when they disturbed some bees that had made a hive in the poles and he got stung by at least two bees on his arm and on his leg. Poor kiddo. THEN as his poor arm is still healing from the bee stings, THIS happened....

Mikey was playing over at a friend's house and they were playing "Dog", and Mikey was the lucky one that had a rope around his hand. They were running and the friend decided that he wanted them to stop running and pulled on the rope, knocking Mikey head first onto the cement curb. The friend's mom had just come out to check on them when it happened and so she rushed him home. When I got home, seconds later, she grabbed the groceries out of my hands and told me that I needed to see him fast! (SCARY!) I walked in the bathroom and saw a crying little boy with a HUGE goose egg on his head and his daddy doing everything he knew to do. He spent last night with an ice pack wrapped on his forehead, and still woke up with his eye so swollen he could barely open it. But he is okay and doing well.

Even with his black eye, he is in good spirits. What a kid!

Newest Peepers

I should have known that it only would have been a short time before my kids figured out art of peeping. The neighbor boys love to have water fights, snow ball fights, trade cards, tease and have fun through this fence, so it only made sense that my crazy kiddos found a way to use the fence also. We had set the coolers out to rinse and dry them, but the kids decided they were needed for another use. (They did have the third cooler to the left on top as well, but had put it down before I had a chance to get the camera. I am praying for no broken bones this summer!)

Beautiful Princess

Oh, my pretty princess. This past week I had been trying to find stuff for our upcoming Pack meeting and so we went in to a dollar store. They had a deal so that everything in the store, for that day only, was 88 cents. So when the kids asked if they could get a little something, I couldn't refuse. Luke got some fish for the tub, Mikey got a ninja toy, and what would Kiersten find......a make-up set. Goodie. She was so excited to go home and try putting it on all by herself. Remember that. I played no part in putting on her "beautiful" make-up. But boy was she proud! This was her first attempt. Then I showed her how to wipe it off with a baby wipe, so she kept trying until it was just "perfect". Cutie girl.
She was so careful and delicate with everything so that it would last a long time.

Sure it made a big mess (on her face as well as in the bathroom), but to see her excitement and how proud she was, was worth it. I can not believe some days how fast they all grow.

Sleepy Boy

A few days ago we were eating lunch, and I had gotten up to go get a drink, when Mikey started yelling for me to come see. I turned to corner just as Luke's sleepy head touched down on the tray. I knew he had been playing hard, but I guess he used all the energy he had! At least he got a few bites down before HE went down.

Luke's new love

Luke's new favorite thing is to watch Finding Nemo. If ever I need a moment of piece and quiet or do to a project, all I have to do is start that movie. He is so fascinated by it that it makes me laugh, and he even will drag me by the hand to go get the movie and then points to the TV so I can make it play. Silly boy.So anyway, today we were looking for pictures online so we didn't have to watch that movie AGAIN, and we came across this picture- it was labeled "someone found Nemo"
(see below):
Isn't that awesome!- Just don't tell Luke!

Any Ideas???

As many of you know, Lance's nephew's cutie daughter, Ryan Rae Smith, was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, which means that her optic nerve is underdeveloped and does not transmit vision signals from the eye to the brain. They are trying to raise money for the surgery that will help her get back some of her sight. The surgery cannot be done in the US, so they are going to China and it will cost $60,000! If anyone has any ideas on how we can help them raise money or have heard ways that can raise the money quickly, please let me know.
For more details on cutie Ryan Rae you can visit a couple sites: (see below)

Fishing with Grandma, Papa, & Uncle Dan

Yesterday we got the chance to spend the day with Grandma & Papa Fuhriman and Uncle Dan. Over all we went to three places to try our hands at fishing. The boys started up at our favorite spot- Spanish Oaks. Uncle Dan was the only successful one there, so after a few hours there, they decided to go to Salem Pond so that is where the girls and Luke met them. Every time I go there I forget how beautiful it is and how peaceful. Grandma saying her special "hello" to Michael.
Grandma, Papa, Luke, and Kiersten watching for the bobber to sink, while soaking in the beauty of the pond.

My Daddy, the fisherman.

After awhile here, we ate our picnic lunch, relaxed and then made plans for the next sight of adventures in fishing.

Uncle Dan playing with the kids.
So after we left Salem Pond we decided to go up Spanish Fork canyon and go where Lance had been dying to fish- it was around Diamond Fork, another beautiful spot, but this time river fishing. So we got there and the boys went off to find the perfect spots and the girls and Luke stayed at a campground.

Grandma showing her magic with her crocheting. In the short time we were there she got more done than I would have in a week. Kiersten also loved seeing what we could do with a little ball of string and a crochet hook.

Lance showing off his skills and love of the river.

The kids loved the time they got to spend with Grandma, Papa, and Uncle Dan. What a great end to a long vacation weekend. We are so lucky to have great family and friends to be with.

Camping Trip with the Porters

This year for our annual Hansen & Porter Camp out (with my best friend Darcy and her family) we wanted to go to the Unitas. So I got online and reserved a spot at the Upper still water campground that was suppose to be 13. 7 miles away from Mirror Lake-a place we all knew and loved and was looking forward to seeing that area again. Well, instead it was a campground a long ways from there, that was actually closer to Duschene. So on our LONG drive there, we passed a whole lot of sage brush, red rock, and I swear snake infested areas. But we knew we were not there, so I tried not to give up hope. Then we started to pass beautiful rivers and lakes and we were getting more optimistic. When we finally got to our reserved area, this is what we saw: Beautiful dam that was so deep that this picture does not do it justice. Unfortunately, this reservoir had not been stocked in 12 years, so the fishing for Lance was not as he had hoped. But there was plenty of relaxing to do and we even came up with a few projects to keep us busy.
Lance made a shower that unfortunately was NOT warm water.

Mikey and Zoey played "Go Fish" among many other things.

David enjoyed widdling and making faces.

Kiersten and Lucy loved watering their rock garden.

The Hammock was also a big hit. The kids loved to sit and sway in it. Mikey and Zoey sat and talked and played pretending games in there, before they realized it could also be a swing and then they would push each other and see how high they could go.

Lance especially loved the cuddle time with the kids and the chance to finally RELAX!

Luke loved to steal time to take long naps. That is the only way we could get him to sleep, and then once he realized he liked that spot, he went there the other days- climbed in and fell asleep! Thank heavens for that hammock!

We also got a chance to take a small hike up the side of the dam and see the beautiful scenery below. The trail was not quite ideal for the small kids (between the rocks and what the horses had left on the trail), but it was worth the effort.

The wonderful Porter family.

A quick family pic by the side of the dam.
So overall, we had a great time. We loved the chance to get away with good friends and play games-even if they did catch on so quickly that it has hard to beat them- and see the beautiful areas that we will probably never see again. What a great tradition and one that we can look forward to next year, especially since I have vowed never to reserve another camp ground without seeing it or knowing for sure where we are going before hand!!!
Thanks again to the Porters for going with us! You are the best!

Sunday Drive

Yesterday, (Sunday) I was getting a little cabin fever. I don't know if it is because of the upcoming camping trip or just because, but we decided to go on a drive up Provo Canyon. What a beautiful area. We stopped at one of the parks and let the kids get some wiggles out before we went up the canyon, but it was well worth the wait. We ended up seeing 3 deer. The kids were sure it was Bambi. They made up a whole bunch of cute stories about where he was going- it was just adorable.
One of the awesome views (on our way back down the canyon) of Utah Lake.

A beautiful view of the valley.
(I laughed because if you look at the clouds- you can see a perfect BYU "Y" in them! As Lance would say, "we're in Cougar Town" now!)

4th of July

For this 4th of July- we did all new things. We spent the morning playing with the neighbors, then we got the great idea to go see a movie. So we (our family and a neighbor boy) went and saw Speed Racer at the dollar theatre. The boys had a great time. For those who have not seen it yet...it is tons different than what I thought it was going to be, but over all liked it. Mikey and Carson (the neighbor) LOVED it, Luke loved the popcorn, Kiersten loved being held by her daddy, and Lance and I loved the air conditioning! Then we went home, and dedicated ourselves to cleaning the garage. It looks tons better, even if if does still have a way to go. We grilled some hamburgers and got the truck loaded to go watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks (from my work's parking lot) when the kids out voted us and wanted to stay home and light the fireworks that Lance and they had bought. Who were we to fight- so that is what we did! Luke loving the lights of the fire works. He is firmly planted in my lap because the sounds of the "wasp" and the tanks were too much for him.
Kiersten had so much fun with the glow sticks that we bought. She would have went through the whole box if I would have let her. But she was good about sharing with the neighbors.

And our Jedi. Mikey loved being Daddy's helper. He was in charge of what was next. In my opinion he did a great job!
We did still get to see the Stadium's fireworks from our house. They were small, but it counts in my books. Besides, with all the horror stories about traffic that night- it was perfect the way it was.
