Lance's Best Saturday Morning

Lance has been going crazy with Spring fever and has been wanting to go fishing.  Finally Friday night he tells me that he is going first thing in the morning.  I had my new Twilight movie, so I told him that was perfectly okay.  He left as soon as he could wake up and I did not expect him until later in the afternoon.  He ended up calling me about 11 and was GIDDY!  Along with 4 others, he had caught a big Brown in the Provo River and it just made his day!
The miracle spinner that made this all possible.

The kids were so excited that they jumped in the back of the truck and could hardly wait to see Daddy's fish.
The proud fisherman
The kids had to warm up to the idea of the fish, but once they got over the fear, they WOULDN'T STOP TOUCHING IT!!!
Kiersten wanted her turn holding it. (The funny part is it was all she could do to smile.  She just kept saying, "yucky, yucky, yucky!")
Luke was infatuated with touching the eye ball.  He would even move the eye ball around- just nasty, but his daddy thought it was funny, so he kept playing.  Boys are weird.
Kissy Kissy Kiersten!

Another shot of the proud fisherman & his catch of the day.

Kiersten & the Bean Museum

Last week Lance had the opportunity to take Kiersten to BYU's Bean Museum with her class field trip.  She has been studying reptiles and fun things like that, so I knew this was not the field trip for me.  Lance loved the chance to take her and Kiersten LOVED that her daddy was going with her and they didn't have to bring Luke...she got ALL the attention.

Here (blurry-sorry) a guy was teaching the kids about the boa constrictor.  Kiersten now professes to know all about this snake and can tell you more than I ever wanted to know about it.  She thought it was awesome!
They even took the snake around and let all those who wanted to touch it have a chance.  Kiersten thought that was the best!
Kiersten & her friend Hayley
Kiersten LOVED everything she saw and asked a gazillion questions.
Cutie girls
The Deer wall.  Every deer you can imagine.  Kiersten's favorite was the tiny deer from Africa. By this point in the tour, Luke and I arrived to get Kiersten so Lance could head to work.  But he stayed every second he could, so that he could be with his baby girl.
Kiersten couldn't help but loving this bear- why??? I don't know.
Lance, Luke, & Kiersten enjoying all the time together they could.

So for all of you that have not been to the Bean Museum, I recommend it.  The kids loved it and the chance to see all the different animals.  They could have spent hours there!  (Best of all it is FREE admission!)

Derby Madness

Okay. I know in the world of scouting I am still new, but who knew in order to have a simple block of wood race, it needed all this!
THE track
Lance worked very hard on sculpting the cars just perfectly.

Melting fishing weights to get his just the perfect weight in front...

Then a lot more work went into widdling the silly things, painting, decorating, and getting them all ready for last night.
So last night was a lot of work. I mainly sat at the weigh in table (with a special scale that one of the doctors I work for loaned us...he is a bishop and has used it for more than a few derbies.) I helped make the "heat lists" and get the races ready. Then after all the set up was complete, cars weighed in, practice runs were taken, it was time for Lance to welcome two new boys to the den & then the races were ready to begin!

My kids were so excited to see the cars race!

Luke's favorite spot of the night. And if anyone tried to move him out of the way...he showed them who was boss!

Kiersten with our Princess car. It was funny to see all the boys cars lined up next to the Princess Power (is what we named it) car. They all laughed, until beat some of their cars!

Mikey & his Jedi star fighter derby car. His car had a few problems with the wheels, but luckily our experienced neighbor helped make his car run like a champ. This night made him extra excited to join the scout group this year!
Here is my princess car. Why is this picture decorated so cute, you may ask. Well, because we were in charge and can get away with things, we had our own special "Hansen Run", where only our three cars raced, and the Princess car WON! So in honor of that race, here is to the winner!!!
Lance and his long horned steer car. He & the assistant cub master had arranged for the Elder's Quorum to also join in the fun and so we had 13 family entries that also participated (including Princess Power & the star fighter). The families' cars did not have a weight restriction, and so that made it extra fun. Some of the cars looked awesome! Lance's was a long horned steer (with the weights on front) and weighed almost 9.5 ounces! The funny part to me about his car was that he did all this work to weigh it down, carve it, smooth it, and make it perfect, but he did not have time to paint it...he left that for me to do. So I thought I would be funny and give his car the #30 (his soon to be age!) Then on the sides I wrote, "No Bull- Almost there!" I thought it was quite funny. He did not...at first. Oh well.

So looking back it was a very fun night. There were some trials, but over all worth the stress!

Strawberry Girl

This silly girl of mine LOVES strawberries. She has been begging me for weeks to buy some and so the other day, I gave in and bought a little 2 lb. container. It was SO funny. She helped me wash them and cut them up, but as you can imagine, it was hard to even keep up with what she was eating. Then I noticed Luke sneaking in for some, and before I knew it there were only 10 strawberries left!

Silly girl- obviously enjoyed this juicy strawberry. (I told her to go look in the mirror and she asked, "Why, do I have something on my face?" I just had to laugh.)

So even after eating almost all the strawberries- she is already asking when we can go get more! All I can say, is at least it is spring & they are in season!

My Little Jedi

Okay, so for the past few months, this is becoming more and more a common sight to see at our house....

Everything becomes a light saber. Not only does he just hold it, but he holds his hand up like he is using the "force" during one of his battles. I even had to buy him a Star Wars shirt because he kept stealing Mikey's and wouldn't let him wear it!

This silly kid plays, eats, & sleeps Star Wars.

He loves battling with his brother and loves having someone to show him new moves.

I bet you can't tell where he gets some of his excitement for Star Wars from, can you???
